Gov. McCrory has stated he is considering the Senate Republicans Tax Reform plan championed by Sen. Rucho and designed by right-wing consultant Arthur Laffer, which includes eliminating corporate and personal income taxes and replacing the revenue with new sales taxes such as a food tax and an increase in existing sales taxes. However, when he was running for governor, Candidate McCrory specifically ruled out those types of tax increases:

This morning Governor McCrory appeared on a Raleigh drive time radio show.  Between discussing the First Lady’s preference for privacy, his dog Moe, and listening to the radio hosts disparage Governor Perdue, the Governor stated that he believes that gun control efforts are “foolish.”

House Democrats met and elected their leadership team for 2013 and 2014. Rep. Michael Wray (Northampton) was elected to serve as Deputy Democratic Leader. Rep. Susan Fisher (Buncombe), Rep. Rosa Gill (Wake) and Rep. Winkie Wilkins were elected to serve as Whips for the Democratic Caucus.

RALEIGH, NC – Today, Governor-Elect “Puppet” Pat McCrory announced the appointment of retail executive Art Pope to the position of Deputy Budget Director.  Pope, President of the John Locke Foundation, main benefactor of the Civitas Institute, and leader of Americans for Prosperity, has been an activist and high-dollar donor for North Carolina’s extreme right-wing for over 20 years.  His former employees controlled McCrory’s campaign and transition team, and now the puppet-master himself has been given the key’s to North Carolina’s budget.
